Taal evacuees line up to receive the relief packs donated by BPI Foundation on April 2.

BPI Foundation, the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), provided immediate relief assistance to 400 families or around 2,000 individuals in Agoncillo, Batangas who were greatly affected by the recent rumblings of the Taal Volcano.

“Many fellow Filipinos were forced to leave their homes due to Taal Volcano's unrest and they need our support to survive these unprecedented times,” said BPI Foundation Executive Director Owen Cammayo. “Looking after the welfare of our communities is part of BPI’s commitment to champion responsible banking and sustainability. We cannot continue to do good business if our communities are failing and being left behind.”

BPI Foundation partners with Ayala Foundation to deliver the relief packs to Taal evacuees in Agoncillo, Batangas.

As part of BPI Foundation's disaster response program called BPI BAYANihan, which aims to support communities badly impacted by disasters, a total of 400 relief packs, containing food and hygiene kits, were donated to evacuees in Agoncillo Central Elementary School, Barangay Paniga, Coral na Munti Elementary School, and Coral na Munti High School. These were transported and distributed on-site by the Ayala Foundation.

BPI Foundation, in partnership with the Philippine Disaster Risk Foundation (PDRF), is also currently building the BPI Bayanihan Center, a two-storey 506-square meter multi-purpose facility in Brgy. Malainin, Ibaan, Batangas City for people burdened by disasters and pandemics. The facility is designed to withstand hazards in the locality and accommodate approximately 300 people. The building is set to be completed in July.
